Watch for news of our Birding Program that will resume in October. We will have scheduled walks from early October 2008 through mid-April 2009. Among the walks being sponsored by Broward County Audubon Society are monthly bird walks for the City of Plantation at the Plantation Preserve Linear Trail. Details of dates, times, and leaders will soon follow.
Give Thanks for the Environment Day
Give Thanks for the Environment Day is an annual event that brings together environmental, conservation and wildlife organizations as well as environmentally-conscious businesses, environmental student programs and environmental practitioners. There are exhibts, presentations, and varied outdoor activities ranging from bird walking or hiking to kayaking. This event will be held at Anne Kolb Nature Center on Saturday, November 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This event corresponds with the National Recycling Day!!!

Christmas Bird Count - 12/14/08
The next Christmas Bird Count is begins December 14, 2008 and ends January 5, 2009. Watch here for details on ways to participate in this National Audubon event.
Great Backyard Bird Count - 2/2009
The Great Backyard Bird Count is a joint project of Cornell Lab of Ornithology under its Citizen Science activities and organizations such as Audubon. Participants count the number of birds in each species in their own backyards or nearby locations for at least fifteen minutes one or more days in the schedule. They report their findings by locations and dates using survey forms and checklists found online at http://www.birdsource.org. At that site you can also find details about the photo contest, ways to upload video clips, and view photos taken. Results of the bird count will be available by location and species. For Florida, the bird with the most counts for 2008 was the American Coot.

Water Matters Day
Water Matters Day is an annual event presented by Broward County Environmental Protection Department, Water Resources Division. Broward County Audubon Society (BCAS) is one of many organizations usually exhibiting at this event. Besides exhibits there are workshops with experts on landscaping, gardening, and making environments more inviting to native wildlife. There are also activities for children, entertainment, and giveaways. For 2009 dates and details watch here and/or at http://www.broward.org/watermatters.
