Animal Photos
As populations grow in South Florida so do the threats to wildlife habitats.  Developers, rather than filling gaps in urban areas, too often encroach on open spaces in the suburbs and rural areas where wildlife have their habitats.  New roads often fragment or destroy habitats and trigger movement of animals from familiar places across developed areas to find the next safe habitat.  On the way to these distant habitats they may become maimed or shot when humans feel threatened.

There are 118 species of wildlife in Florida that have been identified as endangered, threatened, or of special concern.  Among these are the American Alligator, Florida Black Bear, and Florida Panther.  Click here to see the list. As photos of the endangered species become available, we will add them to this page.
